How to install Optifine
There are several ways to install Optifine. One variant is the one with the mod loader Forge or with the downloaded file from Optifine itself. In this tutorial, we first describe the simple variant with the downloaded file itself.
Install Java
In order to be able to execute the file itself, an installation of Java is required. Ideally the latest Java version. You can find them HERE .
Run Optifine
After you have installed Java and downloaded the desired version of Optifine, make sure that the Minecraft Launcher and Minecraft itself are closed. Then you open the Optifine file (with the extension .jar ) with a right click.
How to install Optifine with Forge
Optifine can be installed with Forge if you want to use the mod with other mods at the same time. But it can also be installed completely on its own.
- Go to the Minecraft Forge page and download the appropriate version. The best way to install Forge is to use the Windows Installer.
- Start Minecraft and select “Forge” under Profile. Click on “Play”.

Now that you have downloaded your shader (.zip file), enter “% appdata%” in the Windows search bar and click on the folder above.
Now go from the AppData folder to the “Roaming -> .minecraft -> shaderpacks” folder. If the folder “shaderpacks” does not exist, you may have to create it in the .minecraft directory.
Here you have then only your .zip file with your shaders in the folder “shader packs”.

After you have copied the file into the appropriate folder, you now start Minecraft. Here you go to Options -> Graphics Settings -> Shader.
